Compare what you pay in a year for cable TV or satellite against what it would cost you to rend your favorite shows on DVD (consider a service like Netflix) or purchase them on iTunes. It's quite possible that it would end up being cheaper and you'd have the benefit of enjoying your shows commercial free, unedited and on your own schedule, not to mention being able to enjoy episodic series the way they were meant to be watched, in order from the very beginning.

A set of rabbit ears will probably do a good enough job to allow you to get your local news for 'timely' content. I cancelled my cable TV service 3 years ago and haven't looked back.

I have been thinking about switching from regular tv to another service like satellite. I know there at a lot of options out there and wanted some advice on what I should look for or purchase. It's sad, but I am spending about $125 a month on my tv service and I am getting less than 70 channels. I would love more channels, hd television, and a tivo/tv recording box. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Seeing this article and you talking about net neutrality I thought I'd let you know about the upcoming Net Neutrality rally in Ottawa (organized by TekSavvy). You can find out about it at http://www.netneutralityrally.ca , more media coverage is always better even if you can't make it yourself.

Superb job on this article. Thanks for the info. Everyone who reads this should join the protest - and those of you still using Bell services (any of them - long distance, cell, satalite tv, internet, etc) should switch to a competitors service right away. I've switched all mine over now. All that's left is basic phone line service. Big greedy corps like Bell only understand money, so its best to hit them were it counts: their bottom line.

Thanks, Madgunde for posting the info to make this easy. We CAN make a difference. Bell are going just a wee bit too far this time and they MUST be stopped.
